The Newswall – improving access to content
Under the management of Bill Swanson the Independent Online was the first online news publisher to adopt some new and very effective news delivery options and the first UK newspaper to automatically distribute content to readers Facebook pages.
The NewsWall is a graphic interface that allows consumers to scan current news based on the images attached to each published article. Visual triggering is a far more effective way of attracting attention and reviewing a mass of content for a significant number of site-users. The increase in engagement is revealed by metrics that show session times in minutes not seconds. Add to this the ability to search for date specific pages or the ability to call up all the images associated with a user entered subject. A simple graphic interface becomes a significant tool to increase referral traffic and a major attractor of repeat traffic. The NewsWall can be quickly setup to reflect any subject matter and made available for short or long term sponsorship deals.
Many news publishers have extensive archives of articles that are often under-utilised. The Ultra Knowledge Technology Platform can index and automatically provide consistent relevant tagging in minutes, not the weeks that a manual process would take. Given the auto-tagged content it is then simple to create an ‘A to Z’ categorised listing for easy user access and to radically improve Google access to the site content.
