Senior PHP Software Developer
Type: Permanent
Salary: £25-40K depending on experience + Share Option Scheme

We are a technology company providing innovative search and discovery solutions for online publishers. Our customers range from technology publishers like CBS and IDG through to major news publishers like Associated Northcliffe Digital.
Our proprietary pattern matching technology (which is language independent) gives us the ability to create exciting new ways for our clients to automatically increase their revenue and stay ahead of the competition. We are at the forefront of a very interesting time where there are overwhelming amounts of information available and through our technology we are able to harness it in a way others dream of.
So where do you fit in?
We are looking for a talented web application developer who is keen to expand their horizons. We want someone who would use their existing skillset to enhance or improve current operations but also push for change by introducing new ideas and methodologies. In summary we are looking for:
- A highly productive coder, self-motivated and able to learn new skills quickly
- Intellectually curious and more pragmatic than theoretic
- An excellent working knowledge of PHP/MySQL and web application development.
- A minimum of 2 years commercial experience in PHP development and preferably a good computer science related degree.
- Proven excellence in the following technical skills:
- PHP 5 (including OO methodologies)
- MySQL (optimising/scaling)
- JavaScript (jQuery/ ExtJS)
Additional understanding/interests in the following areas would be a big plus:
- CodeIgniter Framework
- Smarty Templating Engine
- Experience with APIs (Yahoo, Google, Twitter, Freebase APIs etc)
- Experience with Content Management Systems
- Experience with building scalable web applications
- Memcached, Varnish Cache
- Amazon Web Services
- Apache 2.x and ModRewrite
- Some Linux Administration
- ZendFramework
- Queuing Systems (Amazon SQS/Dropr/beanstalkd/RabbitMQ)
- Non-relational database systems (MongoDB/CouchDB/Amazon SimpleDB/Facebook's Cassandra)
- Unit Testing
- Web Application Benchmarking
- SEO
- XML
- Data Mining
- SVN
